Though everyone has a dream car, finance, maintenance and insurance does not help much to get that. For these reason new drivers always prefer cheap car with low insurance and maintenance cost. This is why they go for Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Fiat etc. though these companies also makes expensive cars. Japanese cars with small engines are also favourite.
First time buyers try to get best possible car with cheapest possible price. This is a hard job to match best and the cheapest. When I was taking driving lesson, my instructor asked me to avoid Ford and I was in an intension not to buy at least Ford. But at last I had to buy a Ford car. Nothing was matching with my finance and my capability. I drove that car about 4 years without any trouble. When I sold that car I have got a very good price too. This may be a different case. But my experience says if you maintain a car well, it will last longer. When I bought Ford my friend Simon bought a Honda sports car which was a really first car and was better than mine in all side. The car was so first; he could get in 60 within 10 seconds staying in the first gear. I was very surprised by this performance. But I won at last, because in the three years time he changed his car about four times and in the mean time he tried Toyota, BMW and Vauxhall. None of these made him happy. This doesn’t mean that the cars were not well. I told my friend if he doesn’t change his style of driving no car will last long with him.
There is some basic maintenance for a car.
- Check the water level
- Check if there is enough engine water coolant agent available (for cold country only to help the water not get iced).
- Check engine oil level (change if it gets very dark, if possible than once in six month)
- Check brake fluid.
- Check power steering fluid.
- Check brake disk pad
- Make sure the wheels have enough air
- Drive according to the state law.
Yes if you just follow these, you can expect your car to last long. State rules/law is to ensure safe driving on the road. Follow them accordingly. Don’t break rules at all this will affect your driving reputation and as well as your insurance will be higher. In some countries count traffic crimes are given same value as other crime.
It sounds like a 50 year person is instructing from his experience. Please do not get me wrong. I am just 27 with 6 years driving experience. Yes like others I have the same fascination to drive fast and luxurious cars. These cars are beyond my affordability. When I see a Ferrari or Porsche with two doors runs on the road, my heart beat drops and I really feel jealous. I just can’t even imagine I am driving those expensive cars. I leave a shy only. But an idea helped me a lot when I found a car rental agent in my area. They have really a very good collection of cars with affordable price. Even they offered me first 10 miles free. I had to upgrade my insurance policy so that it covers any car that I drive. This didn’t pinch me a lot as I was carrying a good driving background. I will never forget that day. I hired a Ford sports car. As ford was my first car I am always a bit weak about Ford. I drove that car about 400 miles on the motorway. I still feel that experience.
Sports consume a bit more fuel than normal due to their engine capacity. Even their maintenance cost is higher. Whenever I feel to drive a sports car, sports car rental services solve the problem. I don’t need to worry about any cost except rent and fuel. The best part is, I have the wide range of chance to pick different cars.
